Cards’ La Russa changes lineup for Game 2 of World Series vs Tigers

The St. Louis Cardinals won Game 1 but had three new position players in their Game 2 lineup. The Detroit Tigers lost, but manager Jim Leyland made no changes to his lineup on Sunday night.

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa went with Scott Spiezio at designated hitter, Preston Wilson in left and Aaron Miles at second base on Sunday with left-hander Kenny Rogers pitching for Detroit.

WEaver vs Rogers in World Series Game 2Spiezio hit .318 against left-handers during the regular season, while Miles hit .291 and Wilson hit .292. Chris Duncan started at DH for the Cardinals in Game 1 while Ronnie Belliard was at second base and So Taguchi was in left field.

Spiezio is a career .395 hitter (15-for-38) off Rogers, with two home runs and eight RBIs. His .395 average is the fifth-highest against Rogers by an opponent with at least 30 plate appearances.

Threatened with a fourth postponement in a single postseason, Major League Baseball has avoided another delay and is prepared to start Game 2 of the World Series as scheduled tonight at Comerica Park.

The good news, once again, is that there is not expected to be a fourth 2006 postseason rainout this weekend, and although there are some iffy conditions ahead in St. Louis, tonight probably would have been the only major concern in looking ahead through the remaining games this week.
