Bernardini the even-money favorite for Breeders’ Cup Classic

Preakness Stakes winner Bernardini, taking a six-race winning streak into Saturday’s event, has drawn the No. 3 post position for the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic in Kentucky.

The eight races of the 2006 Breeders’ Cup will be contested Saturday at Churchill Downs in Louisville, with the 13-horse, 1 1/4-mile Classic the highlight of a sterling card.

2006 Breeders Cup OddsBernardini won the $750,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup Oct. 7 at Belmont Park to increase his winning streak. The victories have been impressive as Bernardini has won by a combined 40 lengths.

The early odds makers recognized how dominating Bernardini has been, making the 3-year-old the favorite at 1-1. Javier Castellano will be riding the favorite.

The early odds on Invasor, under Fernando Jara, were set at 5-1 and the horse will start from the No. 11 position while Lava Man and jockey Corey Nakatani, at 8-1, were placed at the No. 8 slot.
