Barbaro or Bernardini? 2006 Eclipse Awards Odds
The main dilemma for voters in this years Eclipse Awards will come down to this… Who should be the champion 3-year-old, Barbaro or Bernardini?
Barbaro was a national hero, who won the Kentucky Derby by the largest margin in 50 years before his career came to an abrupt and horrifying end in the Preakness. His subsequent long fight for survival became the biggest story of the year in horse racing.
It can be easily said that Barbaro became one of the most recognizable names in horse racing to date.
Most will say Bernardini was more hype that actual talent. His 5 length win in the Preakness was received with little acclaim because of Barbaro’s mishap, and when he finally met a formidable challenge in the Breeders’ Cup, he failed to deliver.
The truth is however, Bernardini did accomplish more this year than Barbaro has, though Barbaro had far greater potencial.
These are things all voters will have to think about, this years awards will not be an easy one, but it should make quite the interesting result.
