Pistons shoot for commanding 3-0 lead in Game 3 vs Bucks

Saturday, April 29th, 2006

The Milwaukee Bucks have some talented young players and have enjoyed a fine season. But the Detroit Pistons just seem to be in a class of their own.

The top-seeded Pistons try to send the eighth-seeded Bucks into a Chauncey Billupscrippling 3-0 hole in their Eastern Conference first-round series when the teams square off Saturday.

After finishing the regular season with a league-best 64-18 record, Detroit opened defense of its back-to-back Eastern Conference titles with a 92-74 rout in Game One.

Game Two was much of the same on Wednesday as Richard Hamilton scored 18 points and dished out eight assists despite playing through an ankle injury.

Nets confident of stealing Game 4 vs Pacers

Saturday, April 29th, 2006

Road wins this season at Detroit and Miami, and past playoff road victories at Indiana, Boston, Detroit and San Antonio give the New Jersey Nets confidence.

Coming back this season after a 9-12 start to win 10 in a row and Jason Kidd knocking off 14 consecutive teams after dropping five-of-six later in the year serve as reminders.

Being down to the Indiana Pacers 2-1 in the best-of-seven first-round series with Game 4 Saturday at Conseco Fieldhouse is not an ideal situation. But the Nets go into the game confident that they can return to New Jersey with the series even and the home-court advantage back in their favor.

To tie the series, the Nets have to play better defensively than in Game 2, something they’re more than capable of doing.

NFL Draft shocker: Texans pick Mario Williams; bypass Bush and Young

Saturday, April 29th, 2006

For the last two weeks, the Houston Texans told everyone they were serious about using the first pick in today’s NFL draft on North Carolina State defensive end Mario WilliamsMario Williams, but no one believed them.

Today, Texans fans better believe it, because it’s true.

The team passed up Southern California running back Reggie Bush, the Heisman trophy winner, and former Madison High School and University of Texas quarterback Vince Young, who is expected to be picked third overall by the Tennessee Titans.

Williams, a 6-7, 295-pound junior, ran a 4.70 40-yard dash at the Indianapolis scouting combine and registered 14 1/2 sacks and 27 1/2 tackles for loss for the Wolfpack last season. He signed a six-year, $54 million contract with $26.5 million guaranteed over the first two years.

MLB to Bonds: Pass Hank First, Then We’ll Call You Great

Friday, April 28th, 2006

Barry Bonds passing Babe Ruth’s baseball record is nothing.

At least that’s what Major League Baseball (MLB) thinks.

”Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth’s record,” MLB Commissioner, Bud Selig said. ”We don’t celebrate anybody the second or third time in,” he added.

Apparently, the MLB is not planning any celebrations for the controversial Barry Bonds if the Giants slugger overtakes Babe Ruth’s 714 home runs.

Bonds has been accused of steroids use for several seasons now and that has definitely overshadowed Bonds’ chase for baseball immortality this year. In the book, ”Game of Shadows,” it details allegations against him.

A federal grand jury is investigating whether he committed perjury when he told another grand jury that he had never…

Denver Nuggets Suspend Kenyon Martin

Friday, April 28th, 2006

Don’t mess with the coaches of the NBA. Especially if you’re an NBA player on the brink of destroying your career.

Yes, NBA players should know better.

This premise was already proven back when Latrell Sprewell tried to choke P.J. Carlesimo in Golden State and when Allen Iverson and Larry Brown were having their problems in Philadelphia.

This year, it was proven yet again when Brian Hill had his problems with Steve Francis in Orlando, and Larry Brown again having problems with another point guard wearing a no.3 jersey, this time in Stephon Marbury.

In this year’s NBA Playoffs, the trend continued, and this time it’s in Denver, Colorado. Nuggets head coach George Karl suspended Kenyon Martin after the two exchanged…
