Bolton Wanderers face tough test vs Manchester United

Friday, March 31st, 2006

Bolton Wanderers’ bid to secure a Champions League place will face another tough test when in-form Manchester United make the short journey to the Reebok Stadium on Saturday.

Sam Allardyce’s men slipped to seventh in the table after slumping to a 4-3 defeat at Alex FergusonMiddlesbrough last weekend and now trail fourth-placed Tottenham by seven points.

The Trotters have two games in hand on their rivals, but after winning just four of their 11 Premiership matches since the turn of the year they cannot afford any more slip-ups.

Bolton’s previously stingy defence has become a major problem to Allardyce in the past few weeks and they have kept just one clean sheet in their past seven games in all competitions - and that came against rock-bottom Sunderland.

Wenger to rest Arsenal’s regulars vs Aston Villa

Friday, March 31st, 2006

Arsene Wenger may be tempted to rest several of his first-team regulars against Aston Villa Thierry Henryas he plans for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Juventus in Turin next Wednesday.

The Gunners produced a scintillating display in the first leg against the current Serie A leaders and their 2-0 win was no more than they deserved.

Their domestic form has also improved lately and they look set to push Tottenham all the way in the race to finish fourth.

Martin Jol’s side came from behind to beat West Brom 2-1 on Monday to maintain their five-point lead over Arsenal, although Wenger’s side have a game in hand on their north London rivals.

Can Birmingham City snap their Premiership woes vs Chelsea?

Friday, March 31st, 2006

It doesn’t get any easier for Birmingham City. After heavy defeats against Liverpool and Manchester United in their last two games, Steve Bruce’s side entertain Premiership leaders Chelsea at St Andrew’s on Saturday lunchtime.

City’s form since beating Portsmouth 5-0 in mid-January has been woeful and Didier Drogba they have taken only five points from their last eight Premiership matches.

Their only win in that sequence was a nervy 1-0 success against rock-bottom Sunderland. Emile Heskey’s header in that victory is one of only three goals City have scored in those eight matches and they have conceded 13 times in the dismal run.

Bruce’s long injury list shows no sign of improving and he will also be without Jiri Jarosik for Saturday’s game under the terms of his season-long loan move from Stamford Bridge.

Sprewell lets Ego keep Him Away from NBA

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

Somewhere deep in the heart of Milwaukee, lies Latrell Sprewell.

Yes, Latrell Sprewell is currently residing in River Hills, Wisconsin, and by the looks of things, he won’t be moving anytime soon for an NBA title contender, an NBA playoff-bound franchise, or an NBA team for that matter.

Latrell Sprewell, as good a basketball player that he is, still is and always has been letting his ego get the best of him.

The media tried to contact Spree, what happened next was typical of Sprewell.

”Get off my property right now or I’ll send someone out there to take your head off!” Sprewell exclaimed.

So ended the briefest of encounters early Sunday afternoon a few miles north of downtown Milwaukee, the biggest mystery of the NBA season no closer to being explained by the only person who has…

Amare Stoudemire’s Knee causes Problems

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

Amare Stoudemire did not want to talk Tuesday about how his comeback for the Phoenix Suns has been called off after three games.

And that said it all. He seems to be tired of reliving why his knees still ache. He seems to want to avoid rehashing how his past two games regressed into a shell of his former athletic presence. He does not want to give answers because perhaps he has none about what will happen now.

Stoudemire may not be back for the rest of this road trip or the rest of this season, a possibility that many suggested should have been the case all along. He will resume rehabilitation activity with the Suns holding out hope that he could recapture his athleticism with scrimmages and conditioning sessions rather than frustrating games like he had Saturday…
