The Philadelphia 76ers are a National Basketball Association team based in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania . The Sixers are of seven teams in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Philadelphia 76ersConference of the National Basketball Association. The 76ers play in the First Union Center in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania and wear jerseys of red, white and blue. The team began in 1939 as the Syracuse Nationals and in 1946 were a charter member of the National Basketball League. In 1949, the Nationals were one of seven NBL teams that merged with the Basketball Association of America to form the NBA. In 1950 they played aginst the Minneapolis Lakers in the NBA's first championship series. Led by forward Dolph Schayes, they reached the NBA Finals in 1954 and went on to win the NBA championship in 1955. In 1963 the franchise moved to Philadelphia and change its name to Philadelphia 76ers. In the 1966-67 the tea included center Wilt Chambrlain, guard Hal Greer and forwards Billy Cunningham and Chet Walker; the club won 68 games and the NBA title. In the late 1970s and early 1980s the franchise made four trips to the NBA Finals, winning the 1983 championship. During this period the team featured Forwards Julius Erving, George McGinnis, and Bobby Jones; guards Maurice Cheeks and Andrew Toney; and center Moses Malone.

On March 12 2006, on the Match between The Sixers and the Toronto Raptors, Chris Webber picked up the slack with 31 points, 10 rebounds and season-high nine assists to lead the Sixers. Webber replaced Iverson after iverson was hurt near the end of the first half of the game.
