NBA Basketball History

NBA

The best basketball league in the world is without a doubt the National Basketball League (NBA). The NBA started as a complement for the major American sport of the time, Hockey on ice. In that period the managers of the American sports saw in the professional basketball the perfect sport to keep attracting people to sporting events meanwhile the hockey league was taken a winter break.

Sooner, the basketball took popularity and some people started thinking that it could become a professional league. In June, 1946 the first gathering of the Basketball Association of America (BAA) was held. Only 3 from the initial 11 teams of the time were able to survive until today. Those NBA teams are the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks and the Golden State Warriors.

The NBA was constituted in the year of 1950 when the BAA and the NBL joined together in what we call today the NBA with Maurice Podoloff as its first commissioner. The first NBA match was between the Knicks and the Toronto Huskies and the final score was 68-66 with the victory of the Huskies over the Knicks. A year later the first edition of the all star game was held.

Though the basketball is much older, the truly fine basketball started when the NBA was born due the joining of the BAA with NBL. The NBA is certainly a rushing sport. The NBA starts are world wide famous like in the case of the legendary Michael Jordan who is considered one of the best basketball players ever.

During the fifties the rules of basketball change to make the sport more attractive. One of the new changes of the game was the 24 seconds rule; this rule has 2 objectives, first the offensive of the teams has to be faster and second the offensive don't waste too much time with boring plays.

The NBA enjoys a great popularity. During the eighties until our days the NBA has been one of the most exciting and rushing sports ever. These characteristics have made of the basketball events a tradition and a style of life for many enthusiastic fans of the NBA.
